Lily Rose opened her eyes to see the morning sunlight, streaming in through the window in her small, cozy bedroom. She blinked a few times and sat up, stretching her arms over her head and yawning.
She got up and walked over to her wooden vanity on the other side of the room, sitting down on the wooden stool. Her engraved wooden comb sat on the vanity, and she picked it up, looking at herself and starting to comb her long, curly golden blonde hair.
She looked at herself in the mirror. A soft-featured face, with big blue eyes, long blond eyelashes, and soft delicate lips stared back at her. Her fairy wings fluttered gently behind her as she combed.
From the kitchen, she could hear her mom and sister, Athena, already awake.
“I’m going out into town today. Make sure you keep an eye on your sister, okay?” said her mom to Athena. Her voice was muffled through the walls.
“Sure, whatever.” Lily rolled her eyes at Athena’s too-cool-to-care tone. She liked to put on an act.
Maybe Athena was taking out her anger at their sheltered, boring life on their mom. Lily could understand why.
She finished her morning routine and pulled on her favorite white linen mini dress, along with pink knit socks, matching fingerless gloves, and brown combat boots. She was going to explore the woods today, so she needed to dress for it.
